Lessons Learned.

Subbed in the Sunbeam Class at church today – my favorite!

Lesson: I Love My Whole Family (discussing extended families 🙂 )

Caleb drew a beautiful portrait of Jim Bob.

sunbeam_family_lesson-1

We played a game with photos of my family and took turns pulling one out. Then they all told if it was Great Grandpa, Aunts & Uncles, Cousins, Brothers & Sisters, etc. that was missing. That lead into a discussion of wanting everyone in our family to live together again – no one missing in the eternities.

sunbeam_family_lesson-2

I also learned some fun things we can do with our families (thanks to those 3-year-old and 4-year-old little ones). The list: play train tracks, wash our hands, and “tickle so hard until we pee our pants – for real”.

Spotlight: { Autumn }

Caleb: I love about Autumn swinging on the rope!

Joshua: Thanks to Travis and Liz we have a couple new toys (broken swing with hanging ropes…)

Katey: Autumn plays with me!

Meri: *Squeal* – Someone is getting tickled.

Jacob: I like Autumn’s sense of humor. It’s on the goofball side.

Joshua: Is that Dad’s side or Mom’s side?

Jacob: She doesn’t have dark hair, so it’s gotta be the Pipes. However, I’m the most sarcastic.

Katey: Aim at Meri’s target – it’s her belly button!

Joshua: I love about Autumn that she is fun and always willing to play in the treehouse with me.

Katey: Actually, there is another thing! For what I love about Autumn is that we share a bed. A bunk bed. And… I like that her watch beeps and wakes her up.

Drewby: I love about Autumn is that we play outside a lot together.

Mommy: Autumn is creative and independent and good at following directions. She has a new art book that is so fun. She has made a mask and a cute card. She gathers the supplies and makes them all by herself – start to finish. That’s a good skill to have.

Caleb: You’re a nouget. (to Mommy… I’ll just take that as a compliment.)

Daddy: One thing that I love about Autumn is that she is always willing to help her brother or her sister if they need to go to the bathroom or get a drink at church. She is always willing to be a buddy with whomever she is assigned and she is always helpful with her brothers and sisters.

Meri: Bye! Slide! Autumn!

Comida

I love comics. And I love Mexican food.

A comic about Mexican food? Beauty.

1001 Words is a fun little series where I post one photo + one word.

A side note:  This is what our June looks like.  Our family is in the Mormon Miracle Pageant. We are a Nephite family and Jacob is a Nephite warrior. Meri portrays such a sweet (and wiggly) Nephite.  Shiny headband and bright shiny eyes. Pleasant as all get out – even though she’s teething. Such a sweetheart. You are more than welcome to come see our whole family in this outdoor production. It is Tuesday through Saturday this week (we also performed Thursday through Saturday last week). 9:30 pm at the base of the Manti Temple.

Our treehouse and living room are available if anyone would like to spend the night after. All are invited!!

Just hangin’

I love that my clothesline holds so many clothes.

clothes_line-2

I also love that my washing machine washes so many clothes at a time – all here from one load. 🙂 With another about to go on my 5 (five!) lines.

Hanging clothes on the line is one the chores most of my little ones are happy to help with. Even Meri. She first helped Grandma Gedeborg by sweetly handing one article of clothing up at a time. After each one Meri would say “thank you”. So sweet. Mom told me about it and said she just knew Meri had done it many times. She hadn’t – that was her first time. She has done it many times since though. Such a sweetheart.

Child-friendly – simple & delicious.

Swirl some oil into a skillet. Slice sausage and chop potatoes (used a fry cutter). Brown in the skillet together. Cook over medium heat for about 20-30 minutes until throughly cooked and delicious.

Quiet Game

We showed up late to church last summer and the chapel was filled. We had lots of cousins that wanted to sit by each other. The empty choir seats (up front!) were offered and we decided to give it a go.  I sat by Katey and told her we needed to be very quiet.  Later in the service she said she had a “quiet game” for me. She proceeded to whisper clues to me and I was to whisper back the animal she described.

{Later we took these photos to show her oh-so-adorable and animated faces.}

What has a long neck and eats leaves?

quiet_game-3

A giraffe!

What is small, eats cheese and lives in a hole?

quiet_game-6

A mouse!

What is big, swims, has lots of teeth and holds it’s breath under water?

quiet_game-5

quiet_game-7

A hippo!

What is orange, with a little bit of white on it’s tail, and eats long-earred bunnies?

Um…

I was stumped. This was when she leaned a little closer and said:

“Say fox!”

And then burst into giggles, making our little quiet game not so very quiet after all.

In Bloom

Katey brought me a whole cup of dandelions the middle of last month and told me if I watched closely they would bloom into wishing flowers. This week it happened.

 bloom-1
A little evening glow and Jim Bob blowing wishing fluff off his hand in the background make the photo even more magical.
Makes me ponder …  what weeds in my life given enough time will transform into beauty/wonder/usefulness?
