*tap* *tap* is this thing on?

wo-ah. Life has been busy and my blog has sat idle. I am so sorry to my few readers. Then again, you live with me, so you know what is going on. 🙂

Halloween wasn’t too long ago was it? Here’s a layout of our fun:

Happy

Jacob changes his mind daily what he wants to be when he grows up – sometimes multiple times a day. Today he told me he wants to be something that starts with a “fff..”. I first guessed a firefighter. “Nope” he says. Hmmmm, “f..f..football player?” “Nope” he giggles. Jacob then gave me another clue, “it starts with fff taug”

Oh! …… a photographer.

be still my heart. 🙂

This kid does not quit…

…seriously, Joshua cracks me up almost everyday.

A couple days ago it was, “Are you thinking what I’m thinking?  I’m thinking about something that is cold and has a popsicle stick under it?”  Of course he got a popsicle after that.

The day before that it was, “Mom, the sun got on my tongue and it is very hot.”  He got one then too.  Silly, creative guy.

Yesterday Joshua was playing with a rolly-polly bug he found behind the porch swing.  “I’m going to name it Grandma Gedeborg” he says.  That’s love – bugs and grandmas.

Ralph the Rainbow…

was our betta fish.

We have not had good luck with bettas. After the first two, I decided we would not have any more. However, I forgot to inform my family. My brother and sister-in-law that happen to teach in the nursery for church, decided to give my son Joshua a betta for his birthday. (They had used it for the lesson on fish the week before.)

We had given all the fish equipment away, so we used a mason jar, bought a small jar of food and figured he wouldn’t make it long anyway. Joshua named him Ralph and then over time it became “Ralph the Rainbow”. He was over 4 months old when he died this morning. Jim Bob cleaned his water last night and our best guess is that the temperature was too cold.

I was doing just fine, explaining how the fish’s spirit was gone, when Joshua said, “But I will miss my fish”, broke into tears and collapsed on my lap. That was hard and all I could do was cry along with him.

It gave me better understanding of the scripture in John 11:35, “Jesus wept”, when he was mourning with Mary and Martha. Jesus mourned with those that mourned and comforted them. Another scripture, Mosiah 18:8-10 (in The Book of Mormon) talks about the covenants we make at baptism – this one in verse 9 stands out to me right now “Yea and are willing to mourn with those that mourn; yea, and comfort those that stand in need of comfort, and to stand as witnesses of God at all times and in all things, and in all places that ye may be in, even until death, that ye may be redeemed of God, and be numbered with those of the first resurrection, that ye may have eternal life…”

I give thanks for beautiful animals – and for beautiful children who love those animals.

We will all miss Ralph the Rainbow.

Got seeds?

Joshua found a sesame seed on the floor and asked if he could please plant it. He wanted to grow… hamburger buns. 🙂

Sometimes you've got to go with the flow…

airflow that is. On Monday night we had a family night all planned, but then the wind picked up. And oh my, it was a kite-flying wind if I have ever felt one. The boys each had kites from my parents, and we had a huge rainbow kite we bought at a yard sale right after we were married. This beautiful and big kite has sat in three different apartments and the basement of our current house, just waiting for the wind like the kind we had on Monday. Way too fun.

Joshua was able to get his kite all the way out on the string. Jacob was the king of keeping his kite up, and Autumn had the best view of all. lol. She did have fun helping fly a kite later on.

We were out in our back yard for a couple hours and throughly enjoyed ourselves.

Crunchy Taco

The dinner menu said chef salad, but it was a cloudy rainy day and I decided something a little warmer was needed. Jacob devoured his crunchy taco and then said, “mmmm, that was music to my tummy.”

I’ll cook for that kiddo anytime.

Happy "Pledge Yous" Day!

Our little sweetheart Autumn calls every American flag she sees, “pledge yous”. She can pick them out anywhere! On people’s shirts, a sticker on our fridge and all down main street on Memorial Day – she loves the flag. Autumn is 20 months old now and can say most of the Pledge of Allegiance. We do say the pledge every day in preschool and she has picked it up quick. Here’s a layout I did last summer of Jacob:

Happy Flag Day everyone.

Our visit

We headed up to Idaho for Sam and Jessie’s wedding and spent a week visiting family. The kiddos got lots of cousin time, and I was able to have lots of sister time. I adore my sisters! Ruth, Sarah and I talked about the ol’ days – so many fun memories. We also talked about our kiddos, husbands-all that good stuff.

My younger sisters have grown up so much and it was wonderful to catch up with them too. I remeber them wearing Tulle Flower Girl Dresses and sanding by my side when they were younger. My brothers are so fun to watch as daddies. All my siblings are different and awesome. Lots of similiar interests – and quite a few different ones. Lots of jokin’ and lots of love. I enjoyed catching up with my parents too – they are still amazing.

While we were in the “big city”, we were able to fit in a trip to Zoo Boise:

… and the rose garden next to it. Jim Bob was kind enough to watch our three boys while I dressed Autumn up in her dress for the wedding (that we found at Target on clearance for $4.48 – yeah baby!) and then chased her through the rose garden taking photos. It is so much more effective than posing her and I got to capture her little personality more. Thanks to Audrey Woulard for that superb idea. Here are a couple of my favorites and I’ll post more soon in a seperate entry.:

I also spent some time in the house I grew up in. I helped my mom get everything ready for the open house in Shoshone (including a fun shopping trip to Twin! 🙂 ). I helped my sister Anna make a groovy cupcake display as well – too fun.

The origial plan for the open house was an outdoor backyard bbq. The weather did not cooperate though, so everything was moved quickly to the church. A wonderful evening, nonetheless. My sweetheart manned the grill and there was loads of delicious food to go around. We ended the evening with dancing. 🙂 Ah, love.

A lot of my favorite memories growing up are when we moved the tables (yes – plural – there were 11 of us children – 😉 ) to the sides of the living room and kitchen and had a huge dance floor to romp on. Too much fun.

Well, there you go. Way more excitement than should be allowed in a week. lol. It was wonderfully refreshing and did I mention I LOVE my family. 🙂 It is always good to go back.
